I've always disliked vibrato... didn't understand why a note needed to shake at all... but he's changed my mind. There's something really startling about how beautiful his voice is. And it wasn't just that that made him go far in the show... he was an underdog, and a lot of people like rooting for underdogs.

As for your opinion being "a fact." He's trying to sound "poppy"? 100% opinion, not a fact. Personally I don't agree with it one bit. Clive said he's too cool for the room mainly because he refused to sound "poppy". He's going to hurt his voice? Speculation. Not a fact. As for his vibrato. Sometimes he overuses it, but nobody's perfect. Aside from that he has one of the best voices I've ever heard. And obviously many people want to hear it. If you don't, no one's holding a gun to your head.
