kuukan4 thank you! I saw an ad for this yesterday's paper. (Los Angeles) Playing at a small theater. Wouldn't have thought much of the ad if Oshii's name hadn't been mentioned, but will try to see it this weekend.

for people who wanted the japanese translated into english... here it is. "somewhere, in a place like japan, there are children who never grow up, and they're just like us" I can't translate the written part, sorry. I suck at reading the kanji characters.

From a morning news show on Tokyo Broadcasting System called "Zoom In!"

Where did you get these scores? I totally disagree with them. In any case, in theory the jury of venice is not influenced by any newspaper review so we have just to wait their decision to know who will win. Maybe they love Kitano's movie (which I found wonderful). Believe me, those scores are pure nonsense (in my opinion).

Just on the news this morning - from the three entrants from Japan in the Festival, Ponyo got the initial highest score with a 3.5/5 while Sky Crawlers only got a 2.5/5. Kitano's film looks to be out of the competition as it only received a 2/5

I saw it at Venice... it's really a masterpiece. One of the best movie of the competition with Miya's one. I simply loved it.

From the sounds of the news coming out of the Venice Film Festival, this might be out of the competition. News sources are talking about Miyazaki's and Takeshi Kitano's involvement, but no mention is being made of Oshii's "Sky Crawlers", which was an entrant.

Just what I thought. I'll be giving this movie a pass.

the war is just a background in the movie, there's no justification for war or anything like that. This movie is very surprising as IT IS NOT a war movie... its a love story, with a twist at the end. the voice acting by that chick from Babel is very good.
